The basic tasks

  • Give a 10 minute presentation of your course project

The details

  • Exactly what you present about your projects is up to you. Ideas to consider:
    • What were some of the stickiest issues? Was anything particularly difficult to model, structure, and/or describe?
    • What products from the project do you feel are particularly good?
    • Give an overview of the structure of information in your topic area, discussing how existing standards, information sources, and/or systems structure information on the topic and how they influenced your decisions.
    • Explain alternate models/schemes for organizing your topic area and why you chose to do it the way you did.
    • Are there outstanding issues you are stuck on? You can use the presentation to reap the combined knowledge/expertise of the class. Explain the issue and the context and use your time to generate ideas/discuss solutions.
    • Due to the conceptual nature of the class, we didn't focus on how you'd implement your project components in a system. You could mock up (or if you are really ambitious, build) a system design or interface(s) to show how your component(s) would be used in your use scenario(s).
    • etc.
  • You may use, but are NOT required to use, slides or other visual projections in your presentation.
  • I'll time your presentations so we stay on track and have time for questions/discussion. Make sure you are realistic about what you can say in 10 minutes.
  • Your colleagues in the class with evaluate your presentations using a provided rubric form. The final score will be a weighted average of the mean score given by the class (weight: 1) and my score (weight: 3).
  • The scores you assign will be taken into consideration as part of your course participation score. Basically, if you don't give scores, or if the scores you give are very homogeneous and you make no notes, I'll assume you were not giving your colleagues your attention and respect.

Due: Presenations will be given in class on April 22 and 27.
