The basic tasks

  • Add to your metadata records values for the subject elements (or other elements with values specified from a controlled vocabulary).

The details

  • Add values for any elements you defined in your application profile/schema as having a controlled vocabulary data source.
  • These values may be drawn from your thesauri or your faceted classifications.
  • These values may also be drawn from any other appropriate standards.
  • Document the source of the values you use, whether they are from your own or other sources. You may do this by adding instructions in your application profile/schema, or by adding an annotation-like element to your schema. —insert MARC example—
  • Also, take this opportunity to make sure you address any comments I made on your phase 1 records. Make sure you are creating records consistent with your application profile/schema, regardless of whether you chose to develop an XML schema document or a table-based application profile document. Make sure the instructions and definitions in your application profile/schema are unambiguous—someone else should be able to use your schema as you intended based on these documents.
